The model originated in the US and UK, where Fractional C-suite executives have long been standard for startups, mid-market companies, and enterprises. The advantage: senior expertise that would cost €150,000–300,000 per year as a full-time role — at a fraction of that cost.
Example Use Case
A mid-market company or enterprise knows AI is strategically important but has no one responsible for it. A full-time CAIO isn’t financially justified. A Fractional CAIO develops the AI roadmap, makes tech stack decisions, leads the team, and reports to the executive board.
